Position Summary
314 Action is the largest organization in the United States working to elect Democratic scientists to office at all levels of government, from the Senate down to local school boards.
Into 2025 and beyond we are looking for a Deputy Development Director to help us lead the expansion of 314 Action’s nationwide fundraising network and grow our fundraising to $30 million plus per election cycle. The ideal candidate will have 4-5 years of experience raising major gifts from individuals – whether in political fundraising space/ campaigns or at an institution or at a nonprofit. The Deputy Development Director will report to the National Development Director and will work with other members of our staff including the Executive Director and President.
The Deputy Development Director will work with the National Development Director to oversee the following aspects of the Development program – including but not limited to the national travel program, call time program, events program, foundation relations, major donor stewardship.

The Deputy Development Director will work with the National Development Director to oversee the following aspects of the Development program – including but not limited to the national travel program, call time program, events program, foundation relations, major donor stewardship.
Responsibilities Include
- Report to the National Development Director and work closely with President on all major donor fundraising activities.
- Manage major donor stewardship program and work with development staff to execute
- Coordinate with National Development Director on setting resolicit and prospect research strategy for call time, meeting, and event outreach
- Recommend calls and coordinate daily calltime for President
- Pursue, arrange, and execute on quarterly basis national travel around the country and in virtual settings
- Manage and execute on a quarterly basis virtual and in-person events, fundraisers, and donor briefings
- Work with National Development Director and communications team to draft and prepare materials for distribution to funders (i.e. memos, email updates to donors, fundraising proposals)
- Draft, setup and distribute weekly communications to high dollar donors and prospect segments via email and/or SMS
- Identify new prospects for organization and outline cultivation and solicitation tactics
- Build and manage relationships with current and prospective donors, institutional funders, corporations and donor advisors
- Implement and expand a mid-dollar resolicit program (gifts $250-$2,500) to supplement major donor fundraising efforts
- As needed, assist Campaigns department to raise funds for key federal and statewide candidates running for office from organization existing donor network
- Manage and coach 2-3 development department managers and associates to assist in reaching major donor fundraising goals
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- 3-5+ years of experience in fundraising and development in campaigns, PACs, political organizations or matching major gifts experience at a non-profit institution
- Proficiency in Google Drive, Microsoft Office Suite, and NGP/Every Action. Canva and/or texting platform experience are bonuses
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to successfully engage prospective donors one-on-one
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced atmosphere with extreme attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to manage several tasks/projects at the same time
- Flexibility and the ability to capitalize on opportunities that present themselves in fundraising
- An entrepreneurial spirit
- Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
- Hard working and highly organized
- Having a driver's license and a willingness to drive during work travel
