Position Summary
314 Action is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to electing Democratic scientists and STEM leaders who will champion facts, fight extremism, and deliver progressive change—from the U.S. Senate to local school boards.

The Recruitment Manager will play a vital role in advancing 314 Action’s mission by identifying and supporting the next generation of STEM leaders seeking public office. This is not just a traditional cycle-based recruitment role — it’s a strategic, relationship-driven position focused on building a deep, long-term bench of candidates ready to serve in Congress, statewide office, and beyond. In addition to leading outreach and onboarding efforts for the current cycle, the Manager will help cultivate a leadership pipeline through 314 Action’s growing membership program, working cross-functionally to align recruitment with broader organizational priorities around equity, candidate development, and strategic growth.

Responsibilities Include

Cycle-Based Recruitment & Support

  • Lead recruitment efforts for STEM candidates in targeted federal and statewide races, with an emphasis on open seats and high-impact districts.
  • Guide prospective candidates through the decision-making process, helping them understand the demands, opportunities, and timeline for launching a serious campaign.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to assess candidate viability using 314 Action’s candidate grading rubric, and coordinate across departments to develop individualized recruitment plans.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, elected officials, partner organizations, and consultants to identify prospects and build early-stage support.
  • Support successful campaign launches through strategic planning and coordination with candidate services, development, digital, and communications teams.

Long-Term Pipeline & Membership Integration

  • Serve as a key architect of 314 Action’s long-term recruitment pipeline by nurturing multi-cycle relationships with promising STEM leaders — including those not yet ready to run.
  • Partner with the Candidate Services Director and organizational leadership to shape and support a cross-cycle strategy that includes coaching, leadership development, and programmatic alignment.
  • Collaborate on the development and delivery of cohort-based recruitment, mentorship opportunities, and onboarding resources for members of 314 Action’s national membership program.
  • Help identify and cultivate future candidates through the membership community, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds in STEM and public service.

Organizational Alignment & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with the campaign advisors to ensure a smooth transition from recruitment to campaign support and maintain alignment around candidate strategy.
  • Track outreach, prospect data, and candidate movement using internal tools like Airtable, and support internal transparency across political and executive teams.
  • Contribute to cross-departmental planning and quarterly organizational reporting, providing insights on recruitment efforts, candidate status, and strategic trends.
  • Travel extensively to priority states and districts, attend events, and provide in-person support as needed for recruitment and campaign launches.
  • Work under the guidance of the Director of Federal and Statewide Campaigns to ensure strategic priorities are reflected in recruitment efforts and candidate pipelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4–6 years of experience in political campaigns, electoral organizing, or political consulting; experience managing or advising congressional or statewide campaigns strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of political landscapes, especially how multi-cycle recruitment can shape electoral outcomes.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to connect with prospective candidates, organizational partners, and internal teams.
  • Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder relationships and long-term pipelines of prospects.
  • Commitment to recruiting diverse leaders and advancing equity and inclusion in candidate slates.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adapting to changing electoral dynamics, especially in the latter half of a cycle.
  • Experience with campaign planning (field, fundraising, press, research) and familiarity with how to support candidate onboarding.
  • Self-motivated and highly organized, with the ability to track and manage multiple timelines and projects simultaneously.
  • Commitment to collaboration, transparency, and communication across teams, especially in high-stakes or fast-moving environments.
  • Interest in growing within a mission-driven, fast-paced political organization; openness to learning from senior team members and contributing to the development of emerging leadership pipelines.

About 314 Action

314 Action is the nation’s leading organization dedicated to recruiting, training, and electing scientists, doctors, engineers, and other STEM professionals to public office. Since 2016, we’ve helped elect over 400 pro-science candidates—from U.S. Senators and Members of Congress to state legislators and local officials—supported by a grassroots network of more than 500,000 donors and six million science-aligned activists.

We believe evidence and facts should guide public policy. STEM leaders who are problem solvers bring critical expertise to some of the biggest challenges of our time—from climate change and public health to technological innovation and misinformation. Our work combines hands-on candidate training, strategic advising, and innovative fundraising strategies to help these leaders launch and win competitive races.

314 Action has raised over $60 million to support STEM candidates, helping elect three U.S. Senators, more than 15 Members of Congress, and hundreds of down-ballot officials. In 2024, we elected seven new STEM Members of Congress, including three of the six House seats flipped by Democrats nationwide.

In 2025, we launched Guardians of Public Health, a $25 million initiative to elect 100 doctors and public health experts to state legislatures and higher offices by 2030—ensuring science has a seat at the policymaking table.
